The Ever-Evolving Bean
For as long as I can remember, I have made little comics in my head. I guess growing up with them everywhere has something to do with it, but that's not the point. I just couldn't help but think about the things around me and how they would react if they were animated. Not only did it help pass the time quicker, but it made me smile to think of all the little things around me having their own little world and how that might look. (Future note: Hey, this would work great as an "About Me" description too. I'm just gonna copy this real quick... Ok, you can proceed now.) One night, all I wanted to do was doodle. But the question of "what" always stopped me. I decided then I needed a cartoon character representation of myself to properly express my oddness. After some designing and brainstorming, I decided on a small, simple character. He was actually supposed to be a sprite, a forest spirit. But somehow, he just became a bean shaped frog in the process. He is still a forest spirit to me.
I started drawing him everywhere, doing everything: Bean reading and listening to music, Bean tired and doing silly stuff. Always happy and ready for adventure. He could be a bit chaotic, but he had a big heart. Before I knew it, people around me started to fall in love with Bean's stories. They drew and made Beans too and shared them with me. He was always doing something very Beanie.

But after a while, I felt like Bean needed a friend. Someone who was more of his opposite to balance him out. Thats when Void started to make appearances. I wanted a character that could be serious and mysterious to Bean's happy and playful personality. A reference to finding beauty and light in the darkness; Ying and Yang.
After going through so many designs for her character too, I finally made something I was happy with. I posted it online and she was immediately accepted into the fold and loved. Thats when I started to actually make "Bean and Void" comics. I know my style is old-school. But I have learned things during this experience that I may not have otherwise, and it is my own style. I love the action of drawing, sketching, and painting. It only felt right to use what I know to make something from the heart like this.
Thank you.
Thank you for being here to share this experience with me. I hope to post many more in the future to come and I hope you continue to enjoy Bean and Void as much as I do.
Here's to another 10+ more!
